The Dangers of Hydrocodone and other pain killers

156292188Doctors and surgeons have been using drugs to relieve pain for over a century. They ease pain and sooth suffering, but they also come with a cost. Oxycodone HCL, Hydrocodone, Meperidine, and many other pain meds are addictive and can lead to abuse.

Most of these pain killing drugs are classified as opioids, any drug that effects resemble morphine or other opiates in effect. Opioids relieve pain by suppressing pain signals that reach your brain. they also slow down brain activity and affect the parts of the brain that controls emotion. This is why lower strength opioids are commonly prescribed to help with sleep disorders and anxiety.

Stronger opioids like Hydrocodone are exclusively used for pain, usually after surgery. These are the drugs that can lead to an addiction to pain meds. They cause addiction by mimicking the signal your brain uses to call for dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that relieves pain and causes a feeling a euphoria.

When the drug wares off, your brains dopamine supply is depleted. this causes the withdraw effects of these drugs which include anxiety, sleep loss, and pain. These are the same conditions the drug is suppose to prevent. This leads people to take the drug in order to deal with its withdraw symptoms, causing people to become dependent on the drug.

These drug addictions are not only uncomfortable and painful, they can also kill you. Overdosing on pain medications has killed millions of Americans by shutting down their vital organs. Some of these drugs can kill you with the detox alone if you were taking them at high enough doses for a long enough period of time.

If you or someone you know has an addiction to pain meds, than seek professional help from either a doctor or medical professional. You may also consider going to or recommending the addicted person go to a rehab center. These drugs can cause great benefit, but they can also cause great harm. be aware of any dangers before stating any drug regiment.
